Ever since sailing made its Olympic debut in 1900 at Paris, this sport has been present in the Olympics ever since. Everyone is now waiting for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London to take place, which will provide yachting passionates with over 14 days of exciting competition that no one should miss seeing. The 2012 Summer Olympics will welcome 380 sailors – 237 men and 143 women, who will compete for 10 gold medals (6 for men and 4 for women) in order to make their country proud. However, only one boat per country is allowed in each event. The sailors qualified based on the results at the 2011 ISAF World Championships (75%), and at the World Championships for each boat class (25%).

The 2012 sailing events at the London Summer Olympics will be hosted by the waters of Weymouth Bay and Portland Harbor. Weymouth is a charming seaside town and a popular tourist resort. Weymouth Harbor is renowned for being home to numerous cross-channel ferries, pleasure boats and private yachts. Portland, also known as Isle of Portland, is a limestone tied island, just 5 miles (8km) south of Weymouth. The competition will start on July 28, 2012, and will end on August 12, 2012. During this time, two basic categories of races will take place: fleet races and match racing. Fleet racing means 3 or more competitors racing against each other, while match racing means 2 competitors racing head to head, using aggressive tactics. Fleet racing events include men’s and women’s Two Person Dinghy (470), men’s and women’s Windsurfer (RS:X), men’s Keelboat (Star), men’s Skiff (49er), men’s One Person Dinghy, Heavyweight (Finn), men’s One Person Dinghy (Laser) and women’s One Person Dinghy (Laser Radial).

Match racing includes women’s Elliot 6m event, where 12 crews race against each other. In order to win the races and eventually the gold medal, sailors need to be well prepared, to expertly master their boats, to be able to adjust to changing weather conditions, and to be very tactic. The 2012 Summer Olympics sailing classes have 2 changes from the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The first one is that the women’s Match race competition will replace the Yngling competition, while the second one being that the Tornado Class Catamaran competition has been dropped. Everyone is now waiting for the exhilarating 10 events to take place and to provide us with the drama and excitement we all want to see.

If you are one of those people very passionate about sailing, then you have to know a lot of things about it and to stay in touch with everything is new. Investing in your boat is a great and normal thing at the same time, if sailing is your favourite hobby. In case you have an Eco-friendly life, then you have to do the same with your boat. Sailing will be more pleasant when knowing that you protect the planet and you have a green life. Solar panels are great for sailing ships and a wonderful asset. Solar panels for sailing ships are silent, so they will not disturb you. Sailing will be different than in the past as with the new and amazing solar panels, boat owners will have the necessary energy pumping power into their battery system right from the sun, one of the most popular alternative forms of energy. These devices specially made for sailing have usually a single on board operator station that controls and monitors the generator alternate energy systems.

The daily energy production provided by the solar panels for sailing is huge. This is possible as all the units work on a nominal and reliable system. People passionate about sailing who want to make a wise investment, have to think about the quality and the design of the circuit breakers, Stop/Run switch for a direct control, as well as the solar boost charge controller, which displays the battery bank voltage and the current production.

The best place for installing the solar panels is on the bimini, where the sun is most of the day. The solar panels can be also placed toward the sun, a stanchion mount being very useful in this case. Other possibility is to span the dinghy davits with the help of a panel mount, so there are several possibilities. The Internet is a valuable and practical source for finding many solar panels, as well as the necessary equipment. Inform yourself, read the reviews, compare several solar panels and will definitely buy only cost effective products.

The Volvo Ocean Race is one of the major sailing competitions taking place nowadays. There are six teams in the competition, as follows: Telefonica (ESP), Groupama (FRA), Camper (NZL/ESP), Puma (USA), Abu Dhabi (UAE) and Team Sanya (ChN). The sailing race is based on a yacht trip, during which the competing teams must go through a particular course, with all the supplies and products needed on board from the start. The race can become rather difficult, due to the fact that the teams must handle rough weather and some more troubled patches of water from time to time. All the plans and products for the sailing race must be calculated and acquired in advance by the team members.

In the Volvo Ocean Race that is taking place these days, the major problem of the teams lies on the fact that they may have prepared wrongly for the competition. Due to the fact that they are experiencing a rather difficult passage in the course of the race, many have found that they will remain without supplies before the end of the competition. The captains of the teams have been asked to consider all the most important aspects in a combined manner. Therefore, the ones who have opted for having a lighter boat for sailing, have discovered they will remain without food for the last two or three days of the competition. This is the case of the sailing team of Abu Dhabi. On the other end of the matter, the sailing team Puma packed extra, to make sure that they have all the conditions, but that might be an impediment for them once they reach the Brazil leg of the race.

These are only some of the matters that have been presented on the course of development during the Volvo Ocean Race. The professional sailing teams have various issues to stand in their way, but they are all determined to win the competition, while making the best out of this amazing sailing experience. In the last few days, the standings were in the following order: Telefonica, Groupama, Camper, Puma, Abu Dhabi and Team Sanya.

Sailing is without a doubt a very interesting sport. For some people, sailing actually is more than a sport, being a great passion. Sailing competitions manage to draw an impressive number of contestants, but also numerous people in attendance. And there is no shock in that as all sailing events are interesting and amazing to watch. However, even though sailing is one of the most beautiful water activities in the world, many dangers are associated to it, as accidents can take place so easily. For instance, only last month a sailing tragedy shook the whole world, as five people were killed during the incidents.

The accident took place around the Farallon Islands and the victims have actually been sailors who were racing on one of the boats which signed in for the competition. Now, authorities have initiated an investigation to establish whether race organizers can be charged with anything related to this sailing tragedy. The organizers had to suspend the racing event following the accident and the investigation which began after this tragedy are expected to continue till the end of May. This sailing accident is described as an horrific event in the history of this sport, but also one that should make sailors and race organizers more aware of the dangers that still exist on the waters. Safety is the more important thing that sailors should keep in mind.

As the sailing tragedy took place, only three of the eight crew members have been saved. A body was found immediately, while four crew members were missing, being lost into the waters. Three bodies were later on recovered, but it seems that none of the crew members were wearing life jackets. One member of the crew is still missing. The Coast Guard is now searching for all clues that can lead to the discovery of what caused the accident and this tragedy. Authorities need to establish who is to blame for the unfortunate event, crew members, organizers or even boat damages that could have made the crew loose the control over their sailing boat. Initially investigations indicated that the boat hit the rocks near the islands.

The Titanic memorial cruise is one of the most important and watched sailing events at the moment. Numerous people from all around the world watch this impressive sailing ship which remakes the route of Titanic, one of the biggest ships every created, which sank into the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The Titanic sank on April 15, 1912 after colliding with an iceberg during its first voyage. This event has been considered one of the most important tragedies of the 20th century, at least when talking about accidents. The Titanic was to make a voyage from Southampton to Now York City, but unfortunately the cruise ship never reached its destination. More than 1,500 people died as the Titanic sank.

In 2012, everyone who was fascinated by the story of Titanic, but also sailing passionates and families of the passengers of the original Titanic, were able to embark on a similar ship, for a sailing memorial cruise. The sailing event was scheduled to take place exactly 100 years since the tragedy. The Titanic memorial cruise aims to maintain a series of aspects that were specific to the biggest and most impressive sailing and cruising ships ever made. A number of 1,309 passengers attend the sailing Titanic memorial cruise, remaining on the ship for 12 nights and making the whole itinerary of the historical ship. The passengers will be able to visit the location in which the Titanic sank, too.

Many of the passengers who embark on the Titanic memorial cruise are relatives of the victims or survivors, willing to have their own on-board experience and honor their loved ones, at the same time. One of the most fascinating and interesting facts about this sailing event is that everything is made after the original Titanic ship. Even the music, the elegance and the glamor were recreated by organizers. Many passengers, but also crew members decided to maintain that note and dressed in period costumes, while the restaurants’ menu is perfectly recreated. The whole sailing event is absolutely fascinating and the precision with which even the smallest details have been maintained is really impressive.

The annual Full Crew Farallones Race was this year marked by a tragedy. In fact, throughout the whole year numerous tragic events have taken place when it comes to sailing competitions. This is why specialists have already named 2012 as one of the most dangerous years for sailing. The Full Crew Farallones Race is an annual event which has been held since 1907. One of the most dangerous parts of the race includes a turning point of the Farallon Islands, but despite the fact the Golden Gate Bridge is known as the Devil’s teeth, no unfortunate or tragic events have taken place here, at least until now.

In 2012, many racers have signed in to participate at this sailing competition. Low Speed Chase was one of them, but even though the boat started the race, it never finished it. Due to the powerful wind and the weather conditions that seem to have worsened during the race, the boat flipped and the whole crew felt into the waters, right at the dangerous turning point. Only three of the eight crew members were saved, being still alive, while one body has already been found. Unfortunately, there are still four racers from Low Speed Chase which have not been found yet, being lost into the waters. Even though this is one of the most recent sailing tragedies, it surely is not the only one.

Sailing accidents have actually began to raise concern among both sailing racers and organizers. However, specialists say that risk has always been an important part of sailing. Every little thing and decision can become a huge or even tragic event when sailing. The weather conditions are a determinant factor in sailing, too, but professional sailors need to be skilled enough to handle their boats no matter how the weather evolves. And the reality is that this is not the only accident which has taken place around the San Francisco Bay. The first event of this kind dates back to 1982, when eight sailors died in this area while attending a sailing competition. And naturally this is just one out of many such events that can be traced in the history of this exciting sport.

Sailing is a hobby, a mean of earning money, finding food, transport, so is very important from several points of view. Sailing has become an important sport all over the world and many events take place every day. One of the most recent is related to the International Sailing Federation accepting nominations for membership for 2013-2016. The nominations are for the membership of Sub-committees and Commissions of the International Sailing Federation. The General Assembly takes place on 10 November 2012 in Dun Laoghaire. Many people are very passionate about sailing and they watch almost every competition. This event is also important as the ISAF Officers, members of the ISAF council and other members of the Committee, Sub-committee and Commission members will retire. They were very important for the International Sailing Federation, as all of them are experts in different fields related to the sailing world. Their decisions influenced very much the sailing field and all the events that took place. The evolution of the sailing world also depended on their decisions.

The new members are important also for establishing the Racing Rules of Sailing, Events and Equipment, as well as Youth and Development and Race Officials. The deadline of nomination form is on 1st August 2012. The nominations for ISAF Committee and other members have to be submitted through an ISAF Member National Authority or MNA.
Sailing is very popular among people worldwide, which is why numerous sailing competitions and championships are being held every year. In 2012, one of the most awaited competitions of the kind is the Extreme Sailing Series, which is an annual high-octane racing event providing spectators with up close sailing action. This global circuit spans on Europe, Arabia, Asia and South America and consists of 8 events, also known as acts. The Extreme Sailing Series started on February 28 in the Sultanate Oman and is heading towards Qingdao. Act 2 of the competition will take place in Qingdao from 17 to 20 April.

The series, now in its sixth season, returns to Qingdao for the second time. Qingdao is also known as “City of Sailing”, due to the numerous sailing competitions that it hosts. In 2008, Qingdao was home to the Beijing Olympic Games sailing competition. Now, the city will play host to the very popular Act 2 of the 2012 Extreme Sailing Series, which is organized in association with the Qingdao Yachting Association. In the previous year, the city was also home to one of the series’ acts. However, the only thing extreme about that event was the weather, which led to four capsizes, a major collision and a broken mast. Nevertheless, organizers hope that the Extreme Sailing Series this year will run smoothly, without any unpleasant events. Tuesday, April 17, nine teams with 45 of the best sailors in the world representing 10 nationalities will line up on the starting grid.

This year’s teams are ZouLou, The Wave, Muscat, Team Trifork, Red Bull Sailing Team, Oman Air, Groupe Edmond de Rothschild, GAC Pindar, and Alinghi. The event will be broadcast live for two days, so if you do not have the chance to be there, you could also watch it on TV. During the 4 days of the competition, sailing fans will have the chance to witness one of the most adrenaline-fueled global series in the world. The sailors and their spectacular Extreme 40 boats will definitely provide an amazing show. After Act 2 of the Extreme Sailing Series comes to an end, next act’s locations include Istanbul, Turkey, and Porto, Portugal.

Sailing is a hobby for many people, but also a business and a way of finding and transporting food. This depends on the country we talk about and its economic development. Although it may seem unusual, there are also media consultancy and copywriting agencies which are specialized in the sailing field and marine industry. It is fairly difficult to work in the sailing field as there are less opportunities to be creative and original. Sailing media consultancy and copywriting agencies are very useful for TV production companies, sailing campaigns, PR agencies, sports marketing agencies, race boat teams, marine trade companies, as well as yacht race event organisers.

The main services provided by a sailing agency are ad design and copy, book authoring, website design, website content, as well as press releases, specialist translation, event reporting, brochure creation and promotional literature. Usually, the members of this type of agency include highly experienced specialists such as copywriters, commentators, journalists and many others. Using the services of such an agency is great, both for non-sailing and sailing audiences. The services of a sailing and marine industry agency consist of providing newsletters, producing magazines, brochures and even content for events. It is not important only to provide this type of services, but also how the agency will do that.

Before choosing a certain sailing specialized agency, it is important to search and find out who were its ex- clients, the ability to explain and transmit complex topics in simple and easy to understand terms, the reviews and clients of their ex-clients and collaborators. Sailing media consultancy and copywriting agencies are a new and interesting field, but also very challenging. All products and services have to be tailored for each client and to appeal to the public. The news and press releases have to catch the attention and to make people want to find out more. As sailing terms are complicated for the man on the street, the main purpose of this type of agency is to make even him understand them.
