Being a sailor can be great, but it also means to be prepared for a crisis. Everything is unpredictable, but this does not mean we cannot get over. Sailing emergencies can be very severe when the engine does not work and you are blocked somewhere in the middle of the ocean, in a harbor or a channel. Sailing becomes dangerous and there can happen many things such people falling overboard, a part of the boat will break and the mainsail is also damaged. Although it seems a situation without a happy ending, sailing past experiences proved that things can be worked out and solutions can be found even in these difficult moments.

One of the first things in sailing emergencies means using as soon as possible the equipment that has to be easy to find, so be organized as you never know what may happen. If your boat is in the middle of a crisis, contact the Coast Guard for informative channels and say your name, the boat name, number of people on board, GPS position and other details that are required and necessary. Another possibility is to contact race control, acknowledge the call from Coast Guard or Race Control and then apply the instructions. Sailing can be tricky and risky, but a great sailor thinks about the unexpected situations and risks.

Sailing boats may also be easily damaged when a storm strikes, but there is always something to do to save the team. During a sailing crisis, there is something else that it helps: all the boats that are in that area, must assist in an accident. They have to watch carefully the affected boats, relay messages, give assistance if it is required and advise race control if they are nearby the sailing boat accident. In addition, all other boats should stay radio silent during an accident. In the case of cruising events, the accident will be under the control of Cruising Coordinator that  is recommended to accept the help of race control or starter of race.
